Energy Saving Tips For Home Owners

I strongly believe that the cost of home energy will not slide down, in fact there is a tendency to go up. With the worsening economic condition of the world, tightening of our belt is inevitable. We must do something about it. The nice thing about home energy is that we can lower our energy consumption. By implementing some innovation on the manners of how we use electricity at home.
Here are 5 tips on how to save on home energy today:
1) When not in use, unplug your home electronics such as television sets and DVD players. Your television sets and DVD players still consume few watts of power even if it is in standby mode. Make it a habit to unplug your computer and monitor after using it.
2) Replace your fluorescent light bulbs with LED light bulbs or use the brands with energy star label. LED uses lesser watts and has longer life compared to fluorescent light bulbs.
3) Installing a programmable thermostat at home is highly recommended. You can program your home at a comfortable temperature level during winter and summer.
4) Check and make sure that there are no air leaks into or out of your home. Make sure there are no cracks around your walls and ceilings. It is a must that you seal it tight all your windows and doors to prevent air leaks.
5) Check that your attic, exterior and basement walls have sufficient insulation levels. You can refer to the department of energy to find out what is the recommended insulation level in you area.
We go now to the formulation of your house energy efficiency program. The first step is to conduct an assessment of your house to identify which sections of your house are losing energy. The next step is to analyze whether you can fix it or you need a contractor to handle it for you. The next move is to find out how much money you are willing to spend in fixing those areas that have great energy losses. As soon as you identified the areas, prioritize it according to its importance and to the level of energy loss.
If you feel you are not qualified to conduct the energy auditing of your home, you can hire a professional contractor to do it for you. Usually, a professional contractor charges for a small fee in conducting energy audit. Once the professional energy contractor completes his assessment about your home, he will submit to you a list of energy saving recommendations with an effective cost estimate. In this way, you can expect for more comfortable, safer and lesser energy consumption.
Here are the 5 tips on how to save your electric bills. It is a very simple procedure if you know how to do it. You can achieve it by following carefully the guidelines we mentioned above. It is just a matter of implementing an energy efficient home program. If you feel that you do not have the technical know how to handle it by yourself, finding a professional contractor is not a bad idea. What matters most are the benefits it can bring to yourself and to your family.
